Curbs on sale of two painkillers
Hyderabad: The Drug-Controller of India has put restrictions on the sale of painkiller drugs tramadol and tapentadol, as they lead to respiratory disorders and also addictions. After a review of the effects of the drugs, an order has been sent to all state drug controllers to keep a tab on the sale of these drugs.
Joint director of Drug Control department, P. Nagabhusham said, “Physicians prescribe the drugs for acute and chronic pains, diagnostic and surgical treatments. But some patients keep the prescriptions and use them later. That is wrong as it leads to addiction and also respiratory disorders.” The drugs are manufactured by over 100 small manufacturing units as they are fast and easy moving products. Due to this reason, there is fear of abuse and the order has been issued to keep a check on the sale pattern and if need be, to set restrictions.
