Sundeep’s ‘Prayer Song’
It’s not unheard of for Tollywood actors to double up as crooners for their own films, but it definitely came as a surprise when Sundeep Kishan was approached to sing for another film. The producers of upcoming film Idhega Aasapaddav BalaKrishna recently asked the actor to sing the Telugu version of a hit Tamil song called the Prayer Song.
“We loved the Tamil version and thought it would be a good idea to have it sung in Telugu as well. And since it’s not a commercial song or dance number, we didn’t want a regular singer to do it. We felt Sundeep’s bass voice would do justice to it and it’s also a good way to reach out to the youth,” informs I.V. Prasad, one of the producers of Idhega Aasapaddav BalaKrishna.“The Prayer Song is a funny song about a guy who gets ditched in love. Sundeep has helped us with the lyrics as well,” Prasad adds.
For Sundeep, this is his first singing assignment. He says, “I was talking to the producers and I happened to mention that I really loved the Tamil version of the song. It was just a normal conversation, but the next thing I know, they asked me to sing the song and I readily accepted! I knew it would be fun.”
“Though it was my first attempt at singing, I was quite confident. The song required me to deliver some dialogues through the tunes so it wasn’t as tough as I thought it would be,” the actor adds.
According to music composer and music programmer, Karthik Kumar Rodriguez, film producers and sometimes even music directors choose actors to sing certain songs as it helps in promoting films.
“Actors are more famous compared to singers, so getting them to sing can help the song and movie reach a wider audience.”
“Actors are not trained singers and this adds a raw feel to the song, making it sound new and unheard of. Once they finish recording, we then program and auto tune the track to make it sound good. But a few actors like Pawan Kalyan do understand music,” Karthik adds.
