Sonia, Rahul to visit Seemandhra
Hyderabad: AICC general secretary and state party affairs in charge Digvijay Singh said that separate PCC chiefs, election manifesto committees, and campaign committees will be constituted for Telangana and Seemandhra in a couple of days.
Speaking to the media after the Seemandhra ministers met Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, Mr Singh said that the Seemandhra leaders invited Mrs Gandhi, party vice president Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minster Manmohan Singh to address public meetings in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra. He said Mrs Gandhi has agreed to visit the Seemandhra region in the month of March.
He said that a convention of party workers will be held in both the regions to work out a strategy for the next Assembly elections.
When asked about the appointed day for Telangana state to come into existence, Mr Singh said they are awaiting the notification by the President. They would like it to happen as early as possible so that the new state can start functioning.
Mr Singh said both Telangana and Seemandhra will soon emerge as the most prosperous states in the country. He said that the advantages that will accrue to the Seemandhra people post bifurcation will be explained to the people.
Mr Singh said that Seemandhra will have special status for five years and get tax incentives for 10 years. He said that the issue of allocation of gas from the KG Basin to Seemandhra region will be considered.
A committee has been given the task of identifying the ideal place for the new capital and the location for the High Court, Mr Singh said, and added that the process would be completed in the next few months.
He said that the Polavaram project will not only be funded by the Centre, but all the required permissions and clearances have been deemed to be given.
