Man fakes kidnap to avoid wedding
SRINAGAR : A youth in Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Pulwama district faked his own kidnapping to evade marriage with his fiancee. He as well as his brother and five friends who pretended as masked militants in the bizarre act that shook the area have been arrested by police. According to officials who investigated the incident, Shahmeem Ahmad Magray, a resident of Pulwama’s Qasbayar village, lodged a written complaint with Rajpora police station that during the intervening night of February 21 and 22, a group of unknown gunmen, possibly militants, barged into his house and kidnapped his brother Arshid Ahmad Margay.
But during the probe, the "abductee" was traced in Wathoo village of same district. During questioning, he admitted that he was engaged to a girl against his will. In order to get rid of her, he in connivance with his brother and friends staged the abduction drama. According to the plan, Arshid would have returned home after spreading false words that abductors are releasing on condition that he won’t marry the girl.
