Mystery fevers affected 17,29,622 people in 2013 in Andhra Pradesh

The fever is said to be “of unknown origin” when all available diagnostic tests for known infections do not show a positive diagnosis
Hyderabad: Mysterious fevers whose origins are unknown have affected 17,29,622 people in the state in 2013. The highest number of cases were in Chittor where 1,73,459 were recorded. Anantapur recorded 1,29,391 cases and Adilabad 1,03,293 cases. The state government’s epidemiology wing records data of the total number of fevers in the state, and one category is also assigned to fevers of unknown origin or mysterious fevers.
The fever is said to be “of unknown origin” when all available diagnostic tests for malaria, dengue, tuberculosis, chikungunya, swine flu and others known infections do not show a positive diagnosis. Dr B. Narsimulu, professor of internal medicine at Gandhi Hospital says, “The identification of Pyrexia of Unknown Origin (POU) or fever of unknown origin is a very troublesome diagnosis for a physician.”
