Cambridge trumps Oxford in rankings

Cambridge has ranked first in the UK in 14 of the 30 disciplines covered in the rankings in comparison to 10 for Oxford

London: The University of Cambridge has outperformed the Oxford university in the latest QS World University rankings by subject published on the website topuniversities.com. Cambridge has ranked first in the UK in 14 of the 30 disciplines covered in the rankings in comparison to 10 for Oxford. The London School of Economics ranks first for sociology, economics, communication and media studies. Three other institutions have ranked first nationally in one subject. These include the University of Edinburgh in linguistics, Reading University in agriculture and for the first time the Institute of Education has topped the education table. Although, Cambridge’s overall performance is better, Oxford is still rated as the best in the world in three subjects, more than any institution apart from Harvard or MIT. In English language and literature, modern languages, and politics, Oxford is globally number one, while the Cambridge’s only number one ranking is in history. The Harvard ranks first in 11 of the 30 disciplines, two more than its rival MIT, remains the best all round institution
