Hyderabad: A Public Interest Litigation was filed in the AP High Court, urging the court to direct the Centre and the Governor to ensure that the governance in the state of Andhra Pradesh be put in proper place. Gangishetti Rajani, an advocate from the city, moved a plea stating that state of affairs in AP are not being run in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, consequent to the resignation by N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to the post of Chief Minister last week.
The petitioner told the court that the ruling Congress has failed to elect a new leader to the legislature party and the Governor has failed to explore the possibility of inviting the next largest single party, the Telugu Desam to form the government. She said that the administration has come to a grinding halt and hence there is a failure of the Constitutional machinery in the state and the Union of India has required imposing the President Rule under Article 356 of the Constitution. She urged the court to direct the authorities to file an action taken report in the wake of resignation tendered by the Chief Minister. She requested the court to declare the inaction of the authorities in taking appropriate action under the provisions of the Constitution in view of ‘break down of the Constitutional machinery’ in the state as illegal.
