Beni slams formula for candidate choice

Union minister Beni Prasad Verma criticized Congress formula for candidate selections.

Lucknow: Union minister Beni Prasad Verma said on Monday that he did not agree with the Congress formula for candidate selections, telling reporters that the primary process of selecting candidates in two UP Lok Sabha seats was equivalent to an “auction”.
“With all due respect to Rahul Gandhi, I do not agree with this experiment in Sant Kabir Nagar and Ambedkar Nagar Lok Sabha seats. Several Samajwadi workers are becoming voters of the Congress to derail the process,” he said, adding that the Congress was not fully using his “capability and potential” in the elections.
Mr Verma further said that the Congress was not using his ‘potential’ in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “The party is not using my capability and potential in the elections,” he explained. Mr Verma also said that it was unfortunate the no one in the Congress was keen to project the party as the only option for Muslims against Mr. Modi.
