Desire 816 has a 5.5-inch display, quad core processor and 1.5 GB of RAM

HTC finally unveiled its mid-range flagship smartphone, the Desire 816. The phone promises to be competitively priced while offering LTE and HSPA+ high-speed network connectivity. This pretty looking phablet incorporates a large 5.5 inch display with a 720p resolution. The Desire 816 is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC and coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. The internal storage is available in a few variants, starting 8 GB onwards. The storage can be expanded, using a microSD card, up to a whopping 128GB. Lastly, the built-in battery is a fixed type and stands at 2,600mAh.

According to Engadget, the HTC Desire should produce a decent multimedia experience, courtesy of the BoomSound frontal stereo speakers with dedicated amplifiers, along with a 13MP camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. The entire hardware is neatly tucked inside a 7.99mm-thick, 165g body.

Interestingly, the HTC Desire 816 will be the first smartphone to make use of a nano-SIM, apart from the iPhone 5c. The China launch is scheduled in March, followed by a global launch in April, which is when the exact price can be known.
