Trouble brews in AAP over LS polls
As Arvind Kejriwal begins the party’s campaign in Haryana on Sunday.
New Delhi: As Arvind Kejriwal begins the party’s campaign in Haryana on Sunday, trouble has erupted within his Aam Aadmi Party. Volunteers of the party have been agitating outside the party office, demanding that the outfit shouldn’t field candidates who held important positions before the Delhi Assembly elections and also in the government.
Nearly 200 odd AAP activists have been protesting outside the party headquarters at Hanuman Road for the past two days. The activists have accused the AAP leadership of being “unfair” in selecting Lok Sabha candidates. The second list of Lok Sabha candidates, which was expected to be announced on Saturday, has been deferred.
Rajani, an AAP volunteer from Delhi, complained that initially they were told that the “party will not allow its MLAs to contest Lok Sabha polls”. The volunteer said that “now reports have appeared that Rakhi Birla is to be given a Lok Sabha ticket”.
The volunteers clai-med that the party leadership was “not being transparent wh-en it comes to the scre-ening of candidates”. There was a feeling among the party acti-vists that they were “not being rewarded for their dedication and hard work”.
NCP activists vandalise AAP office in Mumbai
Mumbai: A group of NCP activists on Saturday barged into the Aam Aadmi Party office in suburban Andheri, tore and burnt posters of Arvind Kejriwal and also burnt his effigy, police said. The attack comes two days after AAP leader Anjali Damania targeted senior NCP leader and Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar, saying that Mumbai citizens were paying high electricity charges due to corruption and inefficiency of the state power ministry. Twentythree activists were later arrested in connection with the incident.
