Uncle kills 3 young girls by setting them on fire

Hyderabad: Three girls were allegedly abducted and later murdered by their uncle in Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, police said.

Accused Narender Reddy, aged around 35, lured the three girls Siri (9), Akshaya (7) and Khushi (5) with chocolates and snacks while they were playing near their relative's house in Nizamabad town and took them in a car Wednesday night, they said based on a complaint lodged by the girl's parents.

The girls, all cousins, were then taken to bypass road on Nizamabad town outskirts where Narender allegedly poured petrol on them and set them ablaze, before fleeing from the scene, Nizamabad DSP S Anil Kumar said.

"The half-burnt bodies were found near a college this morning and whether the girls were sedated before being killed will be known only after postmortem," the DSP said.

When police checked the call data records of Narender they found that he had gone towards Basar and found the car near a bridge. However, Narender was not there even as one person called the Basar police informing them that he had seen a man resembling Narender sitting on the railing of the bridge, the senior police officer explained.

"We are investigating whether he might have jumped from the bridge into the river. However, swimmers did not find any body so far," Anil Kumar said adding a case of murder has been booked in connection with the incident.

SC awards 36 yrs jail term to man for sodomising, killing 10-yr-old boy

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday awarded a rare jail term of 36 years without remission to a man for strangulating a 10-year-old boy to death after sodomising him.

Reducing the death sentence of the convict to 30 years in jail in addition to the period already undergone which is six years, the bench said it is not a rarest of rare case but fixed the lengthy jail term for the 'brutal, grotesque, diabolical and dastardly' act.

"We are of the view that incarceration of a further period of 30 years, without remission, in addition to the sentence already undergone, will be an adequate punishment in the facts and circumstances of the case, rather than death sentence," a bench headed by justice K.S. Radhakrishnan said.

"We have no doubt in our mind that such types of crimes preceded by pederasty are extremely brutal, grotesque diabolical and revolting, which shock the moral fiber of the society, especially when the passive agent is a minor," the bench said.

The apex court upheld the conviction of Anil alias Anthony Arikswamy Joseph under various sections of the IPC and awarded the sentence considering that he was 35 years old and a father of a child at the time of committing the offence eight years ago. Anil has been behind the bars since 2008.

"Accused is now around 42 years of age and when he committed the crime, he was about 35 years. We have clearly found that there is no mitigating circumstance favouring the accused. Age is not a factor favouring him. By the age of 35, a person attains sufficient maturity and can distinguish what is good or bad, and there is nothing to show that he was under any emotional or mental stress and the offence was committed only to satisfy his lust, in a perverted way," it said.

The bench noted that the victim was the only child of a woman who worked as a maid and the boy was snatched in a barbaric gruesome manner only to satisfy the perverted lust of the accused.

"Indian society and also the international society abhor pederasty, an unnatural sex, i.e. carnal intercourse between a man and a minor boy or a girl. When the victim is a minor, consent is not a defence, irrespective of the views expressed at certain quarters on consensual sex between adults," the bench said.

"The murder was committed in an extremely brutal, grotesque, diabolical and dastardly manner and the accused was in a dominating position and the victim was an innocent boy, the only son of his mother.

"Accused was aged 35 years when the crime was committed that is he was a fully matured person. Life of a boy, the only son of the mother, was taken away in a gruesome and barbaric manner which pricks not only the judicial conscience but also the conscience of the society," it said.

5 jailed for total of 54 years for UK sex assaults

London: Five persons, including four teenagers, were today sentenced by a UK court to a combined total of 54 years in jail for sexually assaulting five teenage girls. Hassan Abdulla, 33, was jailed for 20 years while Zdeno Mirga, 18, described as the 'boss' by one victim, was jailed for 16-and-a-half years.

Both were convicted of multiple rapes and child prostitution. Jan Kandrac, 17, and Renato Balog, 18, were jailed for five-and-a-half and 12 years respectively. A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also awaiting sentencing.

The five-member gang from Peterborough used 'sophisticated' tactics to groom their victims, detectives told the court at the Old Bailey. They befriended vulnerable girls, gave them gifts, money, drugs and alcohol and used violence and intimidation to control them, subjecting them to 'appalling' abuse in places such as children's playgrounds.

The gang members called themselves the Peterborough Mally Gang - a Czech phrase meaning 'young gangsters' - and congregated at a fried chicken shop in the city. According to the police, Abdulla recruited the others to deal in marijuana. He has been convicted of drug offences in the past.

There were five victims, aged 13 and 14. Most of the offences took place between May and December 2012, but some occurred last May and one offence dates back to 2011 The jury at the Old Bailey heard one of the victims, known as Victim A, had learning difficulties.

She was tied up, raped and sexually assaulted by a number of men in a playhouse at a Peterborough park.

"It's an appalling crime. We've got young people who, because of their experiences and their learning disabilities, are really not in a position to protect themselves or take control of their lives in many instances, and that's terribly exploited by some really evil, unpleasant people," said Detective Supt Ridgway.

Police said they considered the grooming techniques used in this case to be 'sophisticated' because Zdeno Mirga groomed one of the girls to believe she was his girlfriend, before prostituting her to his associates.
