Will the muck hit the ceiling for IPL on March 7?

Despite a report confirming IPL betting allegations, BCCI will hold auctions on Feb 12, 13.

New Delhi: The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) confirmed on Monday that the IPL auctions will be held as scheduled tomorrow in spite of the Mudgal Committee report indicting Chenna Super Kings Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan in the betting scandal.

The Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee had submitted its report on the IPL spot-fixing allegations on Monday confirming that allegations of betting and passing on information against Meiyappan was proved during their investigations.

The good that the Supreme Court has done is that the IPL auction was not stopped. It will happen as planned for all teams in Bangalore on February 12 and 13, said BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, who is also a Union Minister and former IPL chairman.

Shukla said it was important to want for the Court's directive on the issue before taking any decision. "The Supreme Court is an apex court and it will give some views and we should wait for its views," he said.

The three-member committee, headed by former Punjab and Haryana Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal submitted its report to the apex court after investigating the allegations of spot-fixing and betting in the sixth edition of the IPL, which also involved BCCI President N Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan.

However, it is obvious that Indian cricket stands on thin ice post the committee's indictment and things could worsen when the Supreme Court opens a sealed envelope that reportedly contains the names of six India players whom the committee has named in the scandal.

Reports suggesting that two of these six names are of players currently touring New Zealand as part of India's test team makes things murkier. The three players from Chennai Super Kings who are on tour include skipper M S Dhoni, off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and all rounder Ravinder Jadeja.
