Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan found guilty on betting charges
A Supreme Court panel probing a match-fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League on Monday said Indian cricket chief N Srinivasan's son-in-law was guilty of illegal betting on games.
The three-member panel, headed by retired judge Mukul Mudgal, said the allegations of fixing against Gurunath Meiyappan required further investigation.
Meiyappan was the face of Chennai Super Kings, says the report while rejecting N Srinivasan's contention that he was merely a cricket enthusiast.
The two-member committee was formed last year by the Supreme Court to inquire into illegal betting and spot-fixing. During the last IPL, Meiyappan was accused of betting and passing match-related information to bookies. The committee was formed after the Bihar Association filed a petition against the findings of a BCCI committee of former judges of Madras high court.
The committee also gives a ten-point suggestion to SC for making cricket a ‘cleaner’ game and eliminating the evil of spot and match fixing.
