6-year-old girl donates Rs 2,000 to Prakash Amte for social work

Thane (Maha): A six-year-old girl from Belgaum in Karnataka donated Rs 2,000, which she had set aside from her pocket money, to Magsaysay Award winner Dr Prakash Amte for social work. Dr Amte, who had gone to Belgaum to attend a function last week, narrated the incident to reporters here Wenesday.

"At the end of my speech, a small girl walked up to the stage and handed over a piggy bank in which she had collected Rs 2,000," he said. When Dr Amte asked the girl - Prasava Patil, she replied that she had collected the amount from the money given by her parents as her pocket money.

The son of legendary Baba Amte, who known for his work for the rehabilitation and empowerment of poor people suffering from leprosy, Prakash Amte runs Lok Biradari Prakalp at Hemalkasa in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra to provide community services to tribal people.

"As this year is being observed as the birth centenary year of Dr Baba Amte, the Lok Biradari team has ambitious plans of setting up a 50-bedded full-fledged hospital at Hemalkasa," Dr Amte said.
