65 bags of heroin discovered from late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman's home
New York: Late Hollywood actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was reportedly found with five empty and around 65 unused bags of heroin.
Drug paraphernalia including bags of heroin, used syringes and a needle that was still sticking out of Hoffman's arm was discovered when police found his body on Sunday, reported ABC news quoting law enforcement sources.
Police investigating the death of the 46-year-old actor had earlier said they found 50 bags of the narcotic but they increased the figures later.
Detectives are using the stamps on the bags and checking with nearby jurisdictions to track the orgin of heroin. They are also trying to determine the purity of the heroin and whether there were any additives, ABC said.
Police is also looking into the possibility whether Hoffman's stint in rehab this May affected his tolerance for the drug. The actor was found unconscious at around 11:15 am Sunday on the bathroom floor of his apartment by friend and screenwriter David Bar Katz, who called 911.
Hoffman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Oscar-winner was supposed to pick up his three children on Sunday but he failed to show up. He was last seen alive at 8 pm on Saturday night.
The cause of death would be known only after an autopsy. In a tribute the actor, who had a equally successful stint in theatre, Broadway theaters will dim their marquees for one minute at 7:45 pm on Wednesday.
One of the most brilliant performers of his era, Hoffman often outshone the leading actors of his movie through his character roles.
In his Oscar-winning role in 'Capote', Hoffman brought to life Truman Capote and his journey on writing 'In Cold Blood'.
Hoffman's other most notable films include 'Scent of a Woman', 'The Big Lebowski', 'Boogie Nights', 'Magnolia', 'The Talented Mr Ripley', 'Along Came Polly'. Most recently he won supporting Oscar nominations for his roles in 'Charlie Wilson's War', 'Doubt' and 'The Master'.
The actor had an addiction problem very early in his life but had been sober for over 23 years. He got himself admitted for rehab last year following a relapse.

New York: Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of an apparent drug overdose, had been kicked out of the apartment he shared with longtime girlfriend because of his heroin addiction.
According to friends of the actor said Mimi O'Donnell had asked the actor to spend time away from their three kids while he tried to control his drug problem, reported New York Post.
"It was known that he was struggling to stay sober, and (girlfriend Mimi O'Donnell) had given him some tough love and told him he needed some time away from the kids and to get straight again," a Hollywood source said.
The actor, 46, star started renting a tony USD 9,800-a-month pad on Bethune Street in Greenwich Village, which was near to the home he'd shared with O'Donnell and their three young kids — around three months ago, neighbors said. He was found dead of an apparent heroin overdose in his apartment Sunday morning.
"He was apparently in the throes of a major heroin addiction when he died," a law-enforcement source said, adding that there didn't appear to be another woman in the actor's life.
