Drama as police car carrying Janardhan Reddy hits bus
Bangalore: The SUV in which former minister Janardhan Reddy was being taken to Parappana Agrahara central prison, following a general health check-up at Sanjay Gandhi hospital, met with an accident, when the vehicle rammed a private bus from behind near Madiwala junction at 11.30 am on Thursday. Neither Reddy nor any of the police officers sustained any injuries.
Minutes after the incident — the former minister who was jailed in connection with the mining scam was whisked away in a vehicle belonging to an assistant commissioner of police with the prisons department.
Upon receiving news of Reddy’s impending visit to the hospital on Thursday, several fans of the ex-minister had gathered outside the hospital to enquire about his health.
Confirming that Janardhan Reddy was brought in to the Sanjay Gandhi hospital from Parappana Agrahara central prison, Dr Prabhakar, the resident medical officer said, “The ex-minister did visit our hospital for some treatment, but I will not be able to divulge any details as it will be a breach of patient-doctor confidentiality.”
Various media persons were also present, but they were reportedly denied permission to meet Janardhan Reddy. As the ex-minister was seen leaving the hospital with the police convoy, several media vans allegedly began following his SUV.
In a bid to escape media glare, the driver of Janardhan Reddy’s SUV began speeding, causing him to lose control and ram into a private bus, which had suddenly slowed down. A case has been registered with the Madiwala traffic police.
