Mirpur: Dilruwan Perera claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in his just second test to help Sri Lanka to a comprehensive innings and 248-runs victory over Bangladesh before tea on the fourth day of the first test Thursday.
Perera finished with figures of 5-109 and Suranga Lakmal had 3-39 as Bangladesh was dismissed for 250 chasing a massive total of 498.
The result was Sri Lanka's biggest win over Bangladesh, eclipsing its innings and 234-run victory at Colombo in 2007.
Resuming the day on 35-1, the Bangladesh batsmen fell in quick succession in the face of the Sri Lankan pace attack, which peppered them with short balls and tempted them into making rash shots.
Mominul Haque top-scored for Bangladesh with 50 and Amin Hossain made a defiant 32 not out. Amin Hossain and Rubel Hossain shared a last wicket stand of 53, the highest partnership of Bangladesh's innings.
Nasir Hossain contributed 29 and Shakib Al Hasan made 25.
Sri Lanka declared its first innings on 730-6 in response to Bangladesh's 232.
Perera got an admirable bounce and turn from the fourth day pitch which he utilized expertly to make the batsmen's task tough.
Perera dismissed Bangladesh's three key batsmen, Shakib Al Hasan, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim as the home side went to lunch requiring a near impossible 348 runs to bat Sri Lanka again in the match. In the middle session, he had claimed Nasir Hossain for 29.
Shaminda Eranga claimed overnight batsman Shamsur Rahman in the first over of the day with a short-pithed delivery before Suranga Lakmal took the wicket of Marshall Ayub. Lakmal then added two more wickets, trapping Sohag Gazi and Robiul Islam lbw.
Mominul Haque was the top-scorer of Bangladesh with 50 hitting eight fours. Al-Amin Hossain who delayed the inevitable was 32 not out.
