IT firms wary of regionalism

IT companies are becoming wary of employees with regional sentiments.

Hyderabad: With increasing regional affiliations, IT companies are becoming wary of employees with regional sentiments.

Though companies have issued strict orders to techies warning them to abstain from any union activities, they fear that regional sentiments are growing among the employees.

The newly formed Telangana IT Association, which has employees from various companies as members, has its agenda clearly divided along regional lines and the industry is “completely unimpressed” with this development.

All IT companies had maintained a clear distance from regional issues but with the formation of a separate Telangana union and with many employees joining and engaging in union activities, internal orders are being given.

“Although political affiliation will always be there as everyone is a human first and employee later, none of the firms encourage non-business activity on campus. There may be internal circulars by some companies to this effect. Moreover, there is no requirement of additional unions or associations in the IT sector as all the issues are being looked into by existing industry bodies,” said the vice-president of an IT major.

While MNCs have a clear stand on not getting involved in political issues, companies are waiting to see when the movement fizzles out. “Companies are clear that there should be no political alignment affecting the workplace and, hence, internal orders have been issued,” said a member of IT and ITES Association of AP.

“There is a move by firms to suppress any association,” said Sandeep Kumar, president of Telangana IT JAC.
