Christ picture at Tirumala creates flutter
Tirumala: Sri Lankan minister Mervyn Silva got embroiled in a controversy on Wednesday at the Tirumala hills when the assembled media noticed a picture of Jesus Christ in the pocket of one of his aides.
The Sri Lankan minister of public relations and public affairs and his aides were visiting the Tirumala temple to offer prayers to Lord Venkateswara and TTD officials had accorded a warm welcome to the group and ensured that everything, from darshan to handing out prasadam of the Lord, went smoothly.
As the minister emerged from the temple along with his entourage, alert camera-persons noticed that one of Silva’s aides was carrying a picture of Jesus Christ in his shirt pocket, which was clearly visible through the transparent material.
When the media questioned the minister and his aide about the picture, they said that they were not aware of the temple rules and had unknowingly carried the picture.
The TTD vigilance officials, however, tried to downplay the issue.
