Madras HC seeks counter on Thameem’s health
Chennai: Directing the Neelankarai police to file a detailed counter by February 12 with regard to the health condition of the 15-year-old boy who was shot at by an inspector in Neelankarai police station during an enquiry on January 6, the Madras high court seeks counter on Thameem's health condition said till then the boy need not be discharged from the private hospital.
A division bench, comprising justices S. Rajeswaran and P.N. Prakash, posted to February 12 further hearing of the habeas corpus petition filed by M. Sabina Begum, mother the boy Thameem Ansari.
In her petition, Begum sought continuous treatment for her son and a judicial inquiry into the incident, besides release of her son.
In its interim order, the bench said it was submitted by the counsel for the petitioner/mother of the detenu that the boy, after the bullery injury found it difficult to move his neck freely.
The additional public prosecutor submitted that as per the medical report, the detenu was perfectly alright and stable. He was entitled to be discharged and treated only as outpatient periodically.
“Be that as it may, since it is strongly objected to and contended by the counsel for the petitioner that the health of the boy is not stable and he needs to be in the hospital for some more time, we direct the Neelankarai police to file a detailed counter explaining all these things to enable this court to pass appropriate orders. Till February 12, the boy need not be discharged from the hospital,” the bench added.
