AAP, BJP demands SIT probe into 1984 riots

Congress VP Rahul Gandhi’s recent comment on the Sikh riot ignites the controversy.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who met the Lt Governor of Delhi today, demanded a probe by Special Investigation Team into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Meanwhile, both BJP and Akali Dal too joined AAP in raising the pitch for the SIT probe into the riots that broke out following the assassination of then PM Indira Gandhi in 1984. Over 8,000 people were killed, including 3,000 in Delhi.

The demands for SIT probe came following Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's comment on Sikh riot in a TV interview.

In the interview Rahul had said that 'some Congressmen were probably involved in the 1984 riots'.

The BJP has asked for justice for the survivors of the Sikh riot victims.
