BCCI concedes Modi won RCA poll
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conceded on Monday that ousted IPL commissioner Lalit Modi secured enough votes to win the controversy-marred poll to the
Rajasthan Cricket Asso-ciation (RCA), but succeeded in opposing declaration of its result in the Supreme Court.
The BCCI managed through its lawyers to stall the opening of a sealed envelope with the poll results, that would make it official.
“We know the result: he (Modi) is a clear winner. He has 26 out of 33 votes,” the BCCI and R.P. Sharma, Mr Modi’s rival in the RCA election, agreed before a bench comprising Justices A.R. Dave and J.S. Khehar, which put off till March 4 the next hearing on the matter.
While a battery of lawyers from both sides were making submissions in high pitch and trading personal charges against BCCI president N. Srinivasan and Mr Modi, the bench said “at least a person who has played cricket up to Ranji trophy level should be an office bearer”.
It is the second time the court put off declaration of the results of the December 19, 2013 poll in Jaipur. In doing so, the bench also conceded the matter was becoming something of a personal battle between Mr Modi and BCCI president N. Srinivasan.
