IM may try to infiltrate political outfits
Sources say subversive elements may join parties in run up to LS polls posing as political workers.
New Delhi: There is a strong possibility that subversive elements may try and join political parties in the run up to Lok Sabha polls posing as political workers and then make efforts to foment communal trouble.
Intelligence sources said all major political parties will be sensitised in the next few days about this aspect and cautioned to be extremely careful about new members joining them.
Intelligence sources said political outfits will be specifically asked to be do a thorough screening and background check while making new members in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.
“General before Parliament elections there is a fresh drive by leading political parties to make new members. The subversive groups may try and take advantage of the situation and join political parties to trigger communal unrest in the garb of political workers,” a senior intelligence official disclosed.
Sources claimed when Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde recently raised concern that terror outfits will try and damage the secular fabric of the country it was in the backdrop of these fresh intelligence inputs only.
These starling details have been revealed during investigations into the busting of a Lashkar-e-Tayyaba terror module by Delhi police’s special cell and Central intelligence that was trying to rope in the victims of Muzaffarnagar riots into terror activities. The module was in constant touch with top Lashkar commander Javed Baluchi in Pakistan.
Sources said now that Pakistan’s ISI and Lashkar had failed to make much inroads into the victims of Muzaffarnagar riots they will adopt a different strategy to infiltrate into political outfits under the garb of political workers will try to engineer communal unrest.
“This is a smart ploy being adopted by ISI and LeT as they can easily blame and tarnish the reputation of local political parties and say this is an internal law and order problem. Though in reality it will be their operatives triggering panic,” the official added.
Intelligence sources also revealed that Special Cell investigations had confirmed that virtually the entire cadre of the banned outfit, Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), in Uttar Pradesh has been absorbed into terror outfit Indian Mujahideen.
SIMI had the biggest network of roughly around 8,000 activists in UP and most of them are now suspected to be working for IM helping them set up a network not just within the State but entire Northern India.
