Australian woman jumps off burning lodge
Tiruchy: A woman Australian tourist suffered a head injury while 320 other guests of a private lodge escaped unhurt when a fire broke out in the building in the Singarathope area here on Sunday.
Julie, 61, the Australian tourist, who had been a guest at the lodge along with her husband since Friday, injured her head when she jumped off the building’s first floor in panic, sources said.
The fire broke out when a spark that emanated from a nearby electric transformer fell on the projection of the air-conditioner fitted in the lodge.
The panicky guests of the lodge attempted to get out of the lodge by breaking the glass windows. On being informed, fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued all the guests.
However, Julie suffered a bleeding injury on her head when she jumped off the first floor of the lodge in panic. She has been admitted to a hospital, sources said.
