Corporation school is big draw
Chennai: On a par with private schÂools, the Chennai high schÂool in MMDA colony has attÂracted the attention of paÂrents and has already recÂeived many applicatioÂns for the 2014 academic yeÂÂar admissions.
This two-year-old high school, with good scores in 2013 public exams and facilities like English and Mathematics lab, library, music class, taÂlÂent fests and several other co-curricular activities, has drawn students even frÂoÂm areas like Ambattur, Maduravoyal and PalavaÂÂnÂtÂhÂangal.
The commitment shown by the teachers in improving academic ability and personality among students has helped the school make a mark. Wherever you turn, you can spot an info board teaching values and the importance of education.
Class 9 student S. Bharathi from ChoolaimÂedu was weak in English. But after the launch of English lab last year, she is eager to learn the language. “I listen to video lectures on the computer. I pause, rewind and learn the words. My teachers help me to record my voice and correct the pronunciation. I am confident now,” beams Bharathi.
The school, which started in 1986 as a primary school with just 120 students, was upgraded in 2011 to a high school. Now, over 8,000 students are enrolled in the school, which includes 400 students in class 9 and 10.
As the school registered 97 per cent pass in the public exams and a good number of students scored above 400 out of 500 marks, the parents are keen on getting their children admitted to this school.
Detailing various initiatives in the school, headmaster U. Muniramaiah said, “We want to dispel the myth that corporation school kids cannot compete with private school kids. We enrich the knowledge of our students and provide all-round development for them.”
