CPM in dock over Manch workers
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM politburo member M.A. Baby on Friday said the state secretariat meeting would discuss the concerns raised by Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan against inducting former Namo Vichar Manch workers into the party.
When asked whether the secretariat would take a decision on inducting the former BJP-RSS activists, he said: “To questions about the issues raised by Achuthanandan, the party state secretariat which is meeting on Saturday will discuss the issue.’’
Earlier in the day, Achuthanandan had opposed their entry into the party branding Modi supporters as ‘opportunists’. He even cited the example of the party’s understanding with the PDP in the previous elections which had led to the debacle of the LDF.
Meanwhile, Manch president O.K. Vasu, countered Achuthanandan’s charge that their entry into the party would dent the CPM’s image.
“We are dissolving the organization and joining the CPM. About 2,000 workers are ready to join the party. We have put our past behind us and want to start a fresh political life,’’ he added.
Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan said the Manch workers would be taken into the party at a function to be held in Panur on January 29.
The function would be inaugurated by state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. Sources said the Manch workers were likely to be enrolled as candidate members of the party.
