Petty row leads to flare-up in Aurad
Bidar: The police was forced to do a lathicharge to restore order as violence broke out between two groups of people from two different communities over a petty quarrel in Aurad town on Friday. While peace was eventually restored, the district administration clamped prohibitory orders until Saturday.
The violence started after a youth on a bike went to a petrol bunk and got into an argument with the attendant over the quantity of petrol filled. An onlooker, who intervened on behalf of the boy , slapped the petrol bunk attendant, who soon gathered some supporters and rushed to the police station to lodge a complaint. He was joined by members of an organisation and together they took out a protest march.
Meanwhile, members of another community who had assembled at a place of worship, began to stone those in the procession and it soon became a free for all as they retaliated in kind.
The police used a lathicharge to disperse the groups and later held a peace meeting. But emerging from the meeting, some members of one community raised slogans leading to violence, forcing another lathicharge.
