10 held for sexually assaulting minor girl in AP
Rajahmundry (AP): Ten persons have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, police said here on Frdiay.
The incident occurred on December 27 last year but came to light on friday after the girl was found at Vemallapally village under Dwarapudi police station limits of the district.
The girl's sister had lodged a missing complaint at Mandapeta police station stating that her 16-year-old sister was missing since the morning of December 27. Later, the police registered a case and launched a search to trace the missing minor girl, Mandapeta Circle Inspector Ramana told PTI.
The minor, who worked in a cloth shop alleged that 10 men sexually assaulted her, Ramana said.
The Mandapeta police has taken the 10 people into custody and registered cases under Section 354 (A), 342, Section 12 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against them. Further investigations are on, he added.

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old differently-abled woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by two unidentified youth at her residence in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, police said here on Friday.
The duo knocked the door of the victim, who is hearing and speech impaired, at Mallikarjunapuram area in T P Gudur district zone in Nellore last night at around 9.30 PM, they said.
When she opened the door, they forcibly entered her house and allegedly violated her, police said.
The T P Gudur police has registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and a manhunt has been launched to nab the two accused. The victim was being medical examined, even as further investigations were on, police said.

Rajahmundry (AP): A couple has been arrested along with a tantrik for allegedly confining their six-year-old daughter to a room for about a week and branding her with a hot iron as part of a 'black magic' ritual at Pithapuram here, police said on Friday.
According to police, the incident had recently taken place and the girl had been locked up in a room by her family to 'drive away evil spirits'.
The tantrik identified as Suresh Cherry allegedly branded the girl with a hot rod. Neighbours, who had later noticed this, alerted the police.
The Pithapuram police arrested priest Cherry Thursday night, while the girl's parents — Kameswara and Sunita - had been taken into custody on January 21, police said.
The accused were produced before a court on Friday. According to police, the girl is undergoing treatment at Pithapuram Government General hospital. Further investigation is on, police said.

Bangalore: Two separate incidents that were reported from two city schools on Thursday have sent shock waves among parents.
In one incident in a private school in the Bangalore urban academic district, a class six student was strip-searched before she was granted a day’s leave.
She had requested the principal to allow her to go home because she was suffering from a severe stomach ache due to her menstrual periods. She was told to prove in front of her lady class teacher that she infact, had her period, before she was allowed to go home.
The girl told her parents about the indignity she was subjected to, but since her sister too is studying in the same school, her parents did not register their complaint with the school or the education department.
In another case, children of Mitra School in Horamavu allege that teachers harass children if they don’t complete their home work.
The school management has refuted the allegation saying it is a bunch of lies. The department of public instruction (DPI) has initiated an inquiry.
An officer from the DPI said that if the department receives complaints it will take action. “We have not received any complaints of this nature till now,” he said.

Raiganj (WB): An 18-year-old girl was kidnapped and gang raped by unidentified persons when she was returning home with her family at Chakulia in North Dinajpur district, police sources said on Friday.
The girl and her family members were attacked when they were going home from a folk theatre on January 16 at Gada Shimulia village, the sources said.
The attackers beat up the family members and abducted the girl before gang-raping her, they said. The girl was found lying unconscious at the side of a field the next day, the police said.

Raipur: A 40-year-old man was beaten to death after he allegedly raped a minor girl in the Bhilai area of Chhattisgarh's Durg district, the police said here on Friday.
The incident took place when the seven-year-old victim had gone to attend nature's call near her house in Dhaur village under Utai police station limits Thursday afternoon, Station House Officer Phool Singh Netam told PTI.
The accused identified as Parasram Thakkur, a native of same village, reportedly took the girl to a nearby field where he allegedly sexually assaulted her, the officer said. He also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
However, the girl reached her home crying and narrated the incident to her parents, after which villagers caught the man and began thrashing him, he said. Soon after news of the incident apread, a police team reached the spot and pacified the angry villagers, he said.
Immediately a case was registered under Section 376 (rape) and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, based on the complaint of the victim's father, he said.
Since the accused was seriously injured due to the thrashing, he was rushed to the primary health centre of Utai, from where he was shifted to the Durg District Hospital where doctor declared him brought dead , he said.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the man succumbed to his injuries, the officer said. After the death of the accused, a murder case has also been registered against unknown persons, he said.
Meanwhile, the victim girl is stable, the officer said.

New Delhi: A man accused of raping a married woman has been acquitted by a Delhi court which said her conduct was 'highly unnatural' because she had 'neither raised alarm nor resisted the attempt' made by him.
Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat also held that she had no complaint against him, as after the incident also she continued buying goods on credit basis from his shop and even borrowed Rs 2,000 from his mother.
"It is apparent from the testimony of prosecutrix (woman) that she neither raised alarm at the time of incident nor offered any resistance. As per her testimony, there had been some talks between her and the accused (man) before he started sexual assault upon her. She could have raised alarm and shouted for help but she did not do so.
"...This was sufficient to raise doubts in her minds about the intention of the accused and she could have shouted for help as soon as she had first seen him in her room in that condition. The conduct of the prosecutrix, as reflected from her testimony, is highly unnatural," the judge said.
According to the police, the accused, who was running a grocery shop, had raped the woman in March 2013 when she was at her house in west Delhi with her children.
"One day in the month of March, 2013 at about midnight or 1 AM, she was present in her room along with her children, who were sleeping. Her husband had gone out for some work. She went outside the house near the drain to answer the nature's call and meanwhile, accused had quietly entered her room which she did not know.
"When she returned to the room, she saw him. The accused told her that he would not demand due money if she allows him to have intercourse with her," the woman had told the police, adding that thereafter she was raped by the accused.
The man threatened her that it would not be good for her if she disclosed the incident to anybody and then left, the woman had alleged. However, the accused claimed innocence and told the court during the trial that he was falsely implicated.
The court observed that "the woman has admitted in her cross examination that she had visited the shop of the accused and purchased goods from him on credit basis about 5 or 6 days after the incident of rape also.
"She also deposed that thereafter on one day, she had gone to his house and had taken Rs 2,000 from his mother to be given to the landlord as advance rent. I am unable to fathom or discern such conduct of the prosecutrix," the judge said.
"This only establishes that she had no complaint against the accused and for this reason, she continued to buy goods on credit basis from his shop even after alleged incident of rape," he added.

Dubai: An Indian has been arrested at Sharjah International Airport for attempting to smuggle gold, moulded into the form of luggage handles, to India.
The suspect was nabbed by customs officers at the airport while heading to India, according to an official spokesperson from Sharjah Police. He was arrested after failing to declare the gold to the airport authorities and inspectors at the cargo village at Sharjah Airport.
When the bag was inspected, authorities realised that the suspect had removed the metal handle and replaced it with one made of gold, the Gulf News reported.
In the recent past, Sharjah Police have foiled a number of gold smuggling attempts by people using innovative methods in order to escape taxes.
Sharjah Police have warned residents and visitors not to take part in such activities that violate laws of their countries. They have also urged community members to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious behaviour or crimes.

Raipur: In a shocking incident, a man in a Chhattisgarh village killed his 23-year-old son after being 'caught in a compromising position' with his daughter-in-law by him.
The police on Thursday cracked the one-year-old missing case bringing to light the appalling crime.
“Three people including father and father-in-law of the deceased have been arrested on charges of murder”, Bemetera district superintendent of police Parul Mathur said. Police sources said the deceased Jogindra Sahu's (23) father Shyam Sunder (57) has confessed to the crime.
“I was caught in a compromising position with my daughter-in-law by my son. I hired a contract killer to eliminate him fearing loss of face in public”, police quoted Shyam Sunder as saying during interrogation.
According to the case diary, late Jogindra had a bitter quarrel with his father after he learnt about his latter’s illicit relationship with his wife. Shyam Sunder had then plotted to kill him by hiring a contract killer.
He had also made his son’s father-in-law Ghanashyam Sahu an accomplice in the crime.
Shyam Sunder had spread the rumour in the village that his son had gone mad. He had then sent his son along with Ghanashyam and Ram Singh, the alleged contract killer, in a hired vehicle on the pretext of arranging his treatment on February 21 last year.
Ghanashya and Ram Singh had taken Jogindra to a nearby river bed and strangulated him to death. They then buried him under the sand.
Police began a probe into the matter when uncle of the deceased approached the SP pleading to locate his missing nephew. A police team recovered the skeleton of the deceased on Thursday after Ghanashyam and Ram Singh led them to the spot.

Bangalore: A 30-year-old employee of a finance company was arrested by the Rajajinagar police on Thursday following a complaint by his wife’s friend that he had raped her a few months ago.
The suspect has been identified as Shrinivasa, a resident of Mariyappanapalya in Rajajinagar. Police said Shrinivasa had had an arranged marriage nearly five years ago.
Shrinivasa first saw his wife’s friend, a 23-year-old private firm employee, when she had visited their house on Ganesha Chaturthi last year.
A few days after the festival, Shrinivasa reportedly telephoned the victim and lied to her that his wife had met with an accident and asked her to visit her at their home.
However, when the woman arrived, the suspect allegedly threatened her at knife-point and raped her.
Two months after the incident, the woman is said to have mustered courage to tell Shrinvas’s wife about the incident. When she called the woman to their house to try and sort things out, the victim revealed that she was pregnant and asked Shrinivas to marry her.
However, he reportedly refused, which enraged her and she approached the Rajajinagar police alleging rape.
Further investigations are on.

Chennai: An Air India Express passenger tried to sneak in one kg of gold worth Rs 31 lakh in the form of an iPhone at Chennai airport on Thursday. S. Prabhu (35) was carrying gold in his cell phone pouch, when the customs sleuths apprehended him.
According to a customs official, Prabhu, who boarded the Singapore-Tiruchy-Chennai plane at Tiruchy, was only a carrier, while the original smuggler, Raja Raja Chozan (35), brought the gold from Singapore.
The official said that the gold, in the form of a biscuit, was painted black and looked like a cell phone from outside. The officials have apprehended the gold biscuit.

Ghaziabad: A 40-year-old man hit his wife and 15-year-old daughter with a hammer in a fit of rage during a scuffle in Pilakhua area of Ghaziabad, leading to their deaths, police said on Friday.
After killing his wife and daughter last night, the accused, identified as Vijendra, however, did not flee from the spot and police arrested him this morning. Vijendra was a habitual drinker and used to often have fights with Rajvi (30).
Due to this habit, his financial condition was poor, police said. "Vijendra came home drunk last night and had a scuffle with his wife. The fight turned ugly when he picked up a hammer and brutally hit her on her head. After hitting Rajvi, he hit his daughter," a senior police officer said.
The incident came to light this morning when some neighbours noticed blood flowing from Vijendra's house.
"After noticing blood, some neighbours entered Vijendra's house and found Rajvi and Uma lying in a pool of blood while Vijendra was sitting near their bodies. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead," the officer said.
Police said Vijendra has confessed to his crime and he has been sent to jail.

Mumbai: Three passengers were on Friday held by Customs sleuths at the international airport here for trying to smuggle in gold worth over Rs 48 lakhs.
"We intercepted three passengers, all Indian nationals coming from Dubai and recovered 1905 grams of gold valued at Rs 48,22,583," said an Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) source.
In the first case, Ubaid Nelliyadukkam was intercepted with six gold bars weighing 700 grams and valued at around Rs 17 lakhs. The bars were concealed in three boxes containing carbon powder.
The other two passengers -Assai Usman and Mohammad Jameer- had concealed gold wires in their trolley bags.
Customs officials seized gold wires worth over Rs 30 lakhs from the duo.

Kochi: Police is in search of a 42-year-old man who allegedly has sexually abused a 10th standard student and made her pregnant at Irapuram near Perumbavoor.
Subash, a daily wage worker, is understood to have been abusing the girl since June. Police said her mental state was not stable, which was taken advantage of by Subash who is also a relative of the girl.
The case was registered on Wednesday after teachers at the school noticed the issue and informed the parents who came in contact with activists of Childline, an NGO.
The girl is now lodged at the Juvenile Home at Palluruthy, Kunnathunadu Circle Inspector C K Babu, who is leading the investigation, said.

Hyderabad: Burglars struck at the house of an NRI at Dabeerpura late on Wednesday, the night before his son’s wedding, when the family was at a nearby function hall to prepare for the marriage.
The robbers stole nearly 960 gm of gold ornaments, 12,000 Canadian dollars (worth Rs 6.6 lakh), two iPhones, and Rs 8 lakh in cash. The NRI, Maqbool Ali Khan, who works in Canada, info-rmed the police that the cash and gold was kept for his son’s wedding.
“The victim and his family left the house at 11.30 pm and returned at 1 am. In less than one-and-half-hours, the burglars fled with the property,” said Mirza Wahed Baig, detective sub inspector of Dabeerpura.
“The burglars climbed the stairs, broke the room’s lock and got inside. The property was taken from an almirah after breaking it open,” he added. The burglars did not break the front door to avoid being noticed. The police suspects the burglars knew about the money and gold kept in house, and had planned the heist.

Hyderabad: An assistant sub-insp-ector of police and a constable were injured when they were attacked by a man in Bhavani Nagar, in the early hours of Thursday. Responding to a 100 call, the policemen went to check out the report of a quarrel.
The accused, who is said to be mentally unstable, argued with the constable who reached first and pelted stones at him.
When the inspector arrived, he too was attacked. Both cops received minor injuries.
Neighbours of the man, Mogili, 32, had called the police when they heard him arguing with his wife and making a nuisance.
A case has been registered against Mogili under Sections 307, 353 and 332 of the IPC and is being investigated.
Mogili too was injured when locals thrashed him. The police is yet to arrest him.

Chennai: City police arrested two persons after one of them deposited Rs 35,000 worth fake currency at a bank on Anna Salai on Thursday.
According to police, the main accused Askar Ali, 38, came to a private bank to deposit cash in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Askar Ali, a resident of Sembium, runs a hardware business supplying bath fittings, police investigations revealed.
After he left the bank, bank officials found that 70 Rs 500 notes were counterfeit and immediately approached the Anna Salai police station nearby. A police team tracked Askar Ali and he was detained for investigation on Wednesday evening.
Further investigations led to his relative and accomplice, Yusuf who was also arrested on Thursday.
“We suspect the fake notes to have been printed abroad and brought into the city to be circulated through banks,” C.Ramalingam, inspector (crime), Anna Salai said.
The accused have been arrested and remanded to custody. Anna Salai police has registered a case and further investigations are on to identify other persons involved in the case.

Bangalore: Frustrated over the repeated sexual harassment and mental torture by a former Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) employee, a Bangalore-based woman, who works for a private firm, has approached the city’s top cops seeking action. The suspect was reportedly terminated from CISF for bigamy.
In her complaint to police, the victim, Vandana (name changed), who works for a reputed biotech firm on the Vittal Mallya Road had stated that she has been facing harassment since December 2, last year. The accused, M Kumar, a resident of Lingarajapura, had allegedly threatened to pour acid on her if she spurned him.
The case is being investigated by the J C Nagar sub-division police of the city’s North division.
Vandana, a resident of R T Nagar, has accused Kumar of sending obscene and vulgar text messages to her demanding sex. The suspect is also alleged to have kept forcing her to love him.
The victim claimed that she knew the accused for the last four years, since both the families were into business.
After the families incurred losses, she started working for a biotech firm in UB City.
The victim has stated that Kumar, who was earlier employed with CISF, was terminated from service as he had two wives.
She also claimed that her reference helped him later find a job.
The suspect is currently working as a security officer to a reputed business establishment house on Dr Raj Kumar Road.
She also claimed that Kumar was spreading rumours that she would be his next wife. After hearing the rumours, the victim had approached his second wife asking her to advise him to stop doing so. However, the second wife chose to maintain silence over the issue, said an officer investigating the case.

Bangalore: In a tragic turn of events, a 26-year-old housewife allegedly hung herself over a petty quarrel with her husband and in-laws on their son’s first birthday in Viveknagar police limits on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ashita Rouniyar, a native of Uttar Pradesh. Police said Ashita had married Naren (33) back in 2007. Naren works as a senior IT engineer with a private company in the city, and the couple moved to Bangalore in 2008.
The two lived in a house located on 21st cross, Ejipura. On January 21, 2013, Ashita gave birth to a baby boy.
To celebrate his first birthday, the boy’s paternal and maternal grandparents had reportedly sent new clothes.
On Tuesday morning, Naren and his parents allegedly fought with Ashita over which set of clothes the baby should wear.
Around 10 am, Naren is said to have left for work, while his parents took the baby to a temple nearby. Ashita reportedly told them she would stay back at home.
When she was alone, she used a saree and hung herself from the ceiling fan, police said.
The incident came to light when her in-laws returned home. The Viveknagar police, who were informed, rushed to the spot and intimated the victim’s parents.
Ashita’s parents reportedly arrived in the city on Thursday. The victim’s parents registered a complaint on Thursday and have alleged foul play against Naren and his parents.

Kottayam: The Kottayam west police on Thursday arrested Ahamad Kabir, a native of Kannur Muzhuppilangadu and resident of Thiruvathukkal near here, for cheating Rs 1.5 crore from 12 persons on the promise of giving them a share in a local maida manufacturing company, ‘Five-star agro foods limited,’ at Poovanthruthu.
Police said the accused was hiding in Kottayam for the last four years.
A petition had been filed against the accused and his assistant and second accused Asees at Edakkadu police station in Kannur.
The arrest was made by a police team led by Kottayam DYSP V. Ajith.
