3,498 are homeless in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The city has 3,498 homeless people who have made the roads, pavements and open spaces their home.
Of these, 2,520 are men and 979 women. A total of 1,078 have taken to begging, according to a rapid survey conducted by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on the nights of January 20 and 21.
The civic body had deployed 93 teams across its jurisdiction to identify the homeless and to find out their problems so that a sufficient number of night shelters could be constructed for them.
The civic body has compiled and analysed the data in terms of gender, nature of stay, occupation and area of operation to make suitable arrangements to the homeless people.
The GHMC is now preparing an action plan to address the issue of shelterless in Hyderabad involving various stakeholders.
The break-up of the homeless is as follows:
724:?Those attending on patients admitted in hospitals.
1,209:?People who have migrated for a livelihood.
127:?People in transit.
488:?People who came temporarily for some work in the city
303:?People from the city, but who have no home
647:?People who have landed in the city for other reasons and are staying on pavements.
