Pradeep, Raegan important for Tamilnadu success

A. Arun Pradeep is all set to guard Tamil Nadu’s goal and A. Raegan will spearhead the state’s forward line.

Chennai: If these two players perform to their potential, Tamil Nadu can breeze through the Santosh Trophy south zone qualifiers. The duo will be stationed at different ends of the pitch but they are united by the significance of their roles. A. Arun Pradeep is all set to guard Tamil Nadu’s goal and A. Raegan will spearhead the state’s forward line.

Both Arun and Raegan are experienced professionals. The goalkeeper’s assured presence has been integral to the success of Customs in the CFA senior division league in recent times. Even though Raegan hasn’t won the senior division title, his sharpness in front of goal has seen him turn out for MSU, Annai Youth, Arrows and ICF in the top tier of Chennai football. There is still demand for his services. He recently left Income Tax to join AG’s Office.

Another similarity between Arun and Raegan is their hunger for success. Arun prepares for every match as if it is his last. “I love challenges. In the CFA senior division, I don’t have much work because Customs’ defence is always top-class. In the Santosh Trophy, though, I expect tough matches. I’m ready to give my best,” he added.

Tamil Nadu’s goalkeeping coach M. Muruhuvendan said Arun ticks all the boxes. “He is a solid goalkeeper in all aspects. Arun has experience, agility and reflexes. His handling of the ball is also excellent. Above all, he is in total control of his area,” he added.

It would be fair to say that Raegan grew up with football because he is from Thoothur, the fishing hamlet in Kanyakumari district that breathes the beautiful game. The 26-year-old has all the attributes — speed, skill and a nose for goals — that make a productive forward.

“I would be playing in my fourth Santosh Trophy and the occasion is special as I would be playing at home. The residential camp has been useful to improve my fitness and I enjoy training under Mr Ranjith. The chemistry between Sudhakar, who will be playing as a withdrawn striker, and I is great. I’m confident our association will pay dividends for Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Raegan is hesitant to speak to the media and Tamil Nadu fans would be hoping that the forward isn’t goal-shy against the likes of Kerala and Karnataka.
