CPM discusses poll strategy in Kerala

CPM politburo meeting holds preliminary discussions on the party’s strategy for the LS elections

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM politburo meeting on Tuesday held preliminary discussions on the party’s strategy for the Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting reviewed the political situation in the country besides the problems being confronted by the people in view of the rise in prices of essential commodities.

The CPM leadership felt that people were disenchanted with the UPA government and that the anger would benefit the non-Congress and non-BJP forces.

The CPM leadership is confident of a good show in Kerala. However, a survey conducted by a national TV channel predicted a victory for the ruling UDF giving it 12 to 18 seats and the LDF just 2 to 8 seats.

Meanwhile, sources said the politburo has decided to refer Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan’s complaint alleging suspicious dealings between the party bosses and controversial businessman Radhakrishnan in the sale of Deshabhimani land to the party commission.

Since the six-member PB commission is already looking into the issues confronting Kerala, it felt the allegations pertaining to Deshabhimani land deal should also be probed by the panel.
