Bangalore: One of the victims of Monday’s Volvo bus accident, Pradeep Kumar, could have been saved if his relatives had agreed to an immediate surgery and amputation of his legs, said doctors at MVJ Medical College and HoÂspital in Devanahalli, where most of the victims were admitted after the accident.
“We told his relatives that if they tried to move him, he could lose his life. We were ready for the operation, but the relatives shifted him to another hospital, and he died,” said Darini MoÂhan, Chief AdmÂinisÂtrative OfficÂer of MVJ Hospital.
Thirty-six people were shifted to MVJ Hospital after the Volvo bus travelling from Nellore in AndÂhra Pradesh fell to its side near Dandupalya village killing five people. Most of them have been discharged.
“Mahendra Kumar (26), who had suffered head injuries and multiple lacerated wounds, is under observation in ICU. Two drivers of the Volvo bus- Venkatappa, who was at the wheel at the time of the accident, and KodÂanda – are being treated for minor injuries,” said Darini Mohan.
At HospÂital for OrthÂopaedics, Sports MedicÂine, Arthritis & Trauma (HOSMAT), UmÂa MahÂesh (26) underwent a two-hour operation to fix the left elbow and the radius bone in the right forearm.
All the patients will be discharged soon, said Dr Ajith Benedict, Vice-President, Hosmat. Meanwhile, Manipal HosÂpÂital authorities said that 36-year-old Srikanth was still in ICU.
Two children, Aditya (5) and Akshay (2) are under observation at the hospital's paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at the Jayanagar branch of the hospital, they said.
