Bangalore: He had planted the explosives at the Chinnaswamy stadium to kill the ‘kafirs’ (sinful people), who had come to watch the Indian Premier League match on April 17, 2010.
The co-founder of the banned home grown terror outfit – ‘Indian Mujahideen’ Ahmed Sidibapa alias Yasin Bhatkal has reportedly told the police that he condoned his actions against the ‘kafirs,’ who had no right to live and was upset at the botched explosions.
Two out of five bombs had exploded minutes before the IPL match leaving 15 people injured, five out of who were critical. The other three were found and defused later.
“Yasin is cold blooded and remorseless. He is convinced that his actions were ‘rightful’ and in accordance with his radical ideological belief; of wiping out the apostates from the earth,” said an official source. “He is radical in his belief and is convinced that he has been ordained to purge India of non believers.
Though he says he has travelled to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and Bangladesh he refuses to credit any of the top Laskar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) leaders as his mentor. He is not forthcoming with any information,” said the officer on condition of anonymity.
Yasin (32), a name reportedly given to the key IM leader by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) was brought to Bengaluru by the Central Crime Branch of the City police last weekend after a Delhi Court remanded him to police custody till January 28.
The CCB had obtained a body warrant from a local court for Yasin’s custodial interrogation. He has already been chargesheeted in the blast case by the CCB in the terror attack.
