Supreme Court dumps Solar case petition against Oommen Chandy

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by social activist Joy Kaitharam.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by social activist Joy Kaitharam seeking the examination of the CCTV visuals of the chief minister’s office to prove his role in the solar scam.

The SC observed that it had no plans to interfere in the investigation of the case. Kaitharam had moved the apex court after the high court had in October 2013 rejected his appeal.

The Supreme Court, however, remarked that the observations of the high court in favour of the chief minister should not affect the course of the investigation.

The high court, while rejecting Kaitharam’s plea to check the CCTV visuals, had observed that there was nothing to prove that Oommen Chandy had a role to play in the scam or that he had done anything wrong.

The court also pointed out that 33 cases have been registered in connection with the solar scam and none of those involved had questioned the fairness of the state police.
