Supreme Court cancels Group-I Mains of APPSC 2011
Many candidates have asked the SC for fresh exam due to faulty prelims question papers.
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the AP Public Service Commission to conduct Group-I (Mains) exams afresh for all the candidates who appeared in 2011.
Many candidates had approached the court against the APPSC, pointing out that they could not make it to the Mains selection list due to errors in the prelims question papers.
The APPSC had shortlisted about 16,000 candidates for the Mains in 2011. Of them, nearly 9,000 candidates had taken the exam.
However, candidates pointed out six errors in question papers, which the APPSC refused to make good. With this, the candidates approached the AP High Court. The High Court ordered the APPSC to conduct the Mains afresh for all the candidates.
The commission, however, approached the Supreme Court and stated hat about 209 candidates will gain eligibility if the six erroneous questions were deleted. It told the apex court that it was ready to conduct re-exam only for those 209 candidates.
The apex court directed the APPSC to conduct exams for all the candidates who appeared for the Mains in 2011, except those who remained absent, in addition to the 209 candidates.
APPSC officials said they will take a decision after reading the judgement copy. The APPSC had even conducted interviews for about 300 candidates shortlisted in the Mains, but withheld the final selection list. Now, all of that stands cancelled and candidates have to again appear for Mains and interviews.
