Corporation spends only a quarter of funds
Kochi: With only two months left for the financial year to end, the Kochi Corporation could spend only 25.23 per cent of the People’s Plan funds.
During the corporation council meeting held on Monday, development committee chairman T.J Vinod gave out the details of the Plan fund utilisation. Adv. M. Anil Kumar, CPM councillor asked the chairman to furnish details of the Plan fund expenditure.
The development committee chairman said that several Plan fund projects that have been tendered were stuck midway.
The council meeting discussed suggestions for modifying project proposals and to allocate additional funds for certain projects and to change completion of some other projects from multi-year to single year.
After making necessary changes, the council meeting passed the project proposals. The civic body has allocated Rs 85 lakhs for solid waste management and health sectors.
A new project worth Rs 10 lakh has been included under which financial assistance would be provided to cancer patients for chemotherapy and medicines.
Opposition councillors alleged that there was no monitoring at the construction work sites undertaken by the civic body. Replying to the debate, Mayor Tony Chammany said that strict instructions would be given to officials for regular monitoring at worksites.
