A Bittersweet day for BITS Pilani
BITS Pilani endured a semi-successful day at the BFI-IMG Reliance inter-college basketball league, organised by the Hyderabad District Basketball Association under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India, at the YMCA in Secunderabad.
Their men’s team won a thrilling contest against Avanti Degree College 49-45, their women’s side crashed to a 26-47 defeat against St Francis Degree College for Women on a day which saw only two matches being played played.
With this win, BITS Pilani men rose to be placed third on the Pool ‘B’ points table. St Martin’s Engineering College still top Pool ‘B’ with six points from three wins while A.V. College, with four points, are second.
For their women’s team, it was their first match of the competition. They will be looking to climb up the ladder in Pool ‘B’ dominated by the Government College of Physical Education, who currently have six points.
BITS?men dominated the first quarter, ending it with a comfortable 16-6 lead. In the second quarter, Avanti pressed hard to score 14 points but were unable to prevent BITS from taking a 25-20 lead.
In the third quarter, BITS consolidated their position, taking a 37-29 lead going into the final passage of play.
Despite a tenacious display by Avanti, BITS held on for a 49-45 victory.
Swarnim top-scored for BITS with 20 points while Ishan played the supporting role, scoring 12 points. For Avanti, Praveen (17 points) played his heart out.
