AAP to repeat Delhi poll strategy in Andhra Pradesh

Many common people from different segments of society will play key roles in polls.

Hyderabad: The Aam Aadmi Party’s election strategy for the upcoming elections looks similar to its plan for the Delhi Assembly elections in December. Campaigning committees will be formed in the constituencies to drum up support and scrutinise and recruit suitable candidates.

“The national executive committee will frame the guidelines for the committees once the free membership drive ends. However, it is not mandatory that the state coordination committee members will also head the campaigning committees,” said C. Vinod Kumar, a member of the state coordination committee.

“Many common people from different segments of society will play key roles in it. Many human rights activists, lawyers, ex-government officials have been filing applications to contest,” he said. The core committee of eight members will be divided into four each to encourage voters in Telangana and Andhra regions. “These four people will deal with the membership registration and voter enrolment in both regions separately,” Kumar added.

Ramakrishna Raju, convener of the co-ordination committee, said, “That we have recorded one lakh membership so soon is a very positive sign. We are now looking at enrolling more support and then we will start finalising candidates and recruiting them. This is a movement that has emerged completely out of everyday people and we have to now stand up for our problems,” he said.

The block level committee for the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency was formed on Sunday. Gaddam Shravan Yadav, 30, a brand communications manager, and 44-year-old Anita Rao, a businesswoman, have been named the conveners, along with six other people in the age group of 30-40 who will be on the committee. The seat for the Cantonment Board has been reserved for a Scheduled Caste candidate, and the conveners said many applications have been filed y
