A commercial flop, a critical success
The debut effort of Shiv Darshan and Hasleen Kaur may have exhorted “Karle Pyaar Karle”, but it seems the audience did not fall in love with the film. The film struggled to reach even the Rs 1-crore mark over its opening weekend, with single digit footfalls in some theatres. A leading multiplex chain did not even screen the film, further denting the collections.
Even lower than the collections for Karle Pyaar Karle was the revenue garnered by the other release of the week, 'Miss Lovely'. However, the film received great critical acclaim, and catering to a niche audience in any case, made use of a selective screening strategy. Its collections should stay consistent for the rest of the week.
With the new releases not eating into their business, 'Dedh Ishqiya' and 'Yaariyan' continued to add some numbers to their collections so far — albeit not in a very staggering way. The overall collections of both these films in their second week were higher than the opening week figures for the new releases. However, the real “jump” should be seen when 'Jai Ho' hits the screens next weekend.
