‘Gulabi Gang’ to confront AAP in Amethi & Rae Bareli
Lucknow: The Aam Aadmi Party and its leader Kumar Vishwas will have to deal with another formidable foe in Amethi, apart form Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
The well known ‘Gulabi Gang’ from Bundelkhand will be arriving soon in Amethi and Rae Bareli to challenge the AAP leaders.
“They have faced ande (eggs) and will now face dande (sticks). About 500 members of the Gulabi Gang will camp in Amethi and Rae Bareli during elections and challenge the AAP leaders.
Taking to reporters in Rae Bareli, Sampat Pal, the leader of the Gulabi Gang, said that the members of the gang would soon reach Amethi and whenever Kumar Vishwas steps out to campaign, he will have to face these women first.
“Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have done a lot for women empowerment and we will never tolerate if anyone tries to lower their prestige or makes any objectionable reference to them. Kumar Vishwas has a habit of making comments on everyone and he better watch out this time,” the Gulabi Gang leader said.
Ms Pal had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Manikpur in 2009 on a Congress ticket and she was one of the few candidates who had been hand-picked by Rahul Gandhi himself.
Replying to a question, Ms Pal denied that she had been asked by the Congress high command to camp in Amethi and Rae Bareli. “We are doing it on our own and we will do it even if they ask us not to. This is something that every member of the Gulabi Gang wants to do — this is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the Gandhis,” she clarified.
