PCC chief in 5 days: Dipak Babaria
Thiruvananthapuram: With the AICC session getting over, Congress leaders in Kerala are hopeful of the high command selecting the new KPCC chief by Thursday. The majority of the Congress leaders are still in New Delhi to attend the DCC leaders’ meet there on Monday. They also called on defence minister A. K. Antony on Saturday.
Dipak Babaria, AICC secretary in charge of the state, confirmed to DC that the new KPCC chief will be named before Thursday. He said the high command was yet to zero in on the candidate.
“Currently, the AICC is weighing the merits and demerits of all the probable candidates. The AICC will give thrust to the youth, but at the same time, the senior leaders’ views also will be taken into consideration,” he said.
Senior leader V. M. Sudheeran held talks with AICC leaders in New Delhi on Saturday amid rumours that he is likely to be appointed AICC general secretary.
“As of now, we feel that Speaker G. Karthikeyan is likely to be made the PCC chief. The announcement will come in less than a week’s time,” said M.M. Hassan, KPCC vice-president.
