Traffic diversions for R-Day parade, rehearsals

The Chennai city traffic police has announced changes in vehicular traffic on Kamarajar Salai.

Chennai: The Chennai city traffic police has announced changes in vehicular traffic on Kamarajar Salai as part of Republic Day celebrations.

­The temporary arrangement will be in place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday on Republic Day for a few hours in the morning.

According to an official release, the stretch of Kamarajar Salai from Light House to War Memorial will remain closed for vehicular traffic from 6 am till the rehearsal or the programme concludes.

Commercial vehicles coming from Adyar towards Broadway on Kamarajar Salai will be diverted at Greenways point towards R.K. Mutt Road, V.K. Iyer Road, Devanathan Street, St. Mary’s Road, R.K. Mutt Road, Luz Junction, Luz Church Road, Karpag­ambal Nagar, Sivasamy Salai, Royapettah High Road, Royapettah Tower Clock, Whites Road, Smith Road and Anna Salai to reach Broadway.

Other vehicles, including MTC buses on the same route, will be diverted at Santhome High Road-Kutchery Road Junction towards Kutchery Road. These vehicles will use Kutchery Road, Luz Junction, Luz Church Road, Karpagambal Nagar, Sivasamy Salai, Royapettah High Road, Royapettah Tower Clock, Whites Road, Smith Road, Anna Salai to reach Broadway.

MTC buses (route No. 27D) on Dr Radhakrishnan Salai towards Gandhi statue will be diverted at Dr Radhakrishnan Salai-V.M. Street junction towards V.M. Street and other vehicles should use Royapettah High Road, Luz Junction, R.K. Mutt Road, Mandaveli Junction, South Canal Bank Road, Srinivasapuram to reach Foreshore Estate.

MTC buses (route No. 21G) from Luz Junction towards Gandhi statue will be diverted at Royapettah High Road flyover. These vehicles should use Royapettah High Road, Roypettah Tower Clock, Whites Road, Smith Road and Anna Salai to reach Broadway.

MTC buses (route No. 12G and 45B) travelling from Luz Junction towards Gandhi statue will be diverted at Royapettah High Road flyover. They will use Royapettah High Road, Roypettah Tower Clock, Whites Road, Smith Road, Anna Salai, Walajah Road to reach Anna Square. No vehicle will be allowed beyond Dr Radhakrishnan Salai-Dr Natesan Road junction towards Gandhi statue but will be diverted towards Dr Natesan Road.

No vehicle will be allowed beyond Dr Natesan Road-Avvai Shanmugam Salai junction towards Kama­raj­ar Salai but be diverted tow­ards Ice House junction.

No vehicle will be allowed beyond Dr Besant Road-Dr Kamarajar Salai junction towards Kamarajar Salai but will be diverted at Dr Besant Road roundtana towards Ice House junction. No vehicle will be allowed beyond Bharathi Salai-Bells Road junction towards Kamarajar Salai but will be diverted towa­rds Bells Road.

No vehicle will be allowed beyond Wallajah Road-Bel­ls Road junction (except M­TC buses) towards Kam­arajar Salai but will be diverted towards Bells Road. MTC Buses will be allowed up to Canal Bank Road junction only. The An­na Square bus terminus will be temporarily operating from Wallajah Road near government guest house when the regulations are in place.

Vehicles from Parry’s Corner proceeding towards Adyar will be diverted at RBI subway (north) tow­ards Raja Annamalai Man­dram. Drivers should use Muthuswamy point, Walla­jah point, Anna Salai, An­na statue, General Pat­ters Road, Royapettah To­w­er Clo­­ck, Whites Road, Ame­rican consulate service road, Cathedral Road, Dr Rad­hakrishnan Salai, Dr Natesan Road, Kara­nee­swarar Pagoda Street, San­th­ome High Road to re­a­ch Adyar. No vehicle will be allowed fr­om Wallajah point tow­ar­­ds War Memorial.
