Police to seal Kozhikode city on Wednesday

The police will seal the entire city on the day of the verdict in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case.

Kozhikode: The police will seal the entire city on the day of the verdict in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case on Wednesday and clamp restrictions under Kerala Police Act 78 and 79 here for five days from Tuesday.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of police officials chaired by ADGP North Zone N. Shanker Reddy at Police Club on Saturday.

Shanker Reddy told DC that there would be special security network for the district prison and the additional principal and sessions’ court, Eranhipalam, where the verdict will be delivered. He also examined the court premises after the meeting.

Apart from the armed reserve battalion, additional forces would be deployed in the city and rural police division.

The police have banned rallies and public meetings. Vehicle checks will be intensified. Apart from city police commissioner G. Sparjan Kumar, key police personnel over the rank of Sub-Inspectors participated in the discussions.

A meeting of police officials held at Vadakara on Friday had decided to impose restrictions at Vadakara and Nadapuram areas in Kozhikode district and Thalassery subdivision and Payyanur police station limits in Kannur district from January 20 to 27.
