Throw Congress-led UPA out, says Jayalalithaa
Kotagiri: Exhorting the people to ensure the rout of the DMK and the Congress in the coming Lok Sabha polls for ‘betraying Tamil Nadu’ on critical issues, AIADMK general secretary and chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday asked her party cadre to ‘work day and night’ to win all the 39 seats in the state and the one in Puducherry.
“Joining your efforts, I will also be undertaking whirlwind campaign across the state”, she said addressing a huge turnout of party workers and the public here, after paying floral tribute to AIADMK founder and matinee idol M.G. Ramachandran on the occasion of his 97th birth anniversary.
She recalled that MGR had launched the AIADMK with the sole aim of banishing DMK chief M. Karunanidhi from politics as he had violated the principles of party founder Anna and forced MGR out of the party after taking his help to become the chief minister.
Though the DMK was part of the Union government for 17 years, it failed to bring any benefits to Tamil Nadu whereas Karunanidhi used the power-share at the Centre to benefit his family and the party through the “Himalayan corruption” of 2G-Spectrum that swindled the nation. “KaruÂnanidhi had betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu in all aspects by not objecting to the many Central actions against the state while continuing to be part of the UPA regime”, CM said.
She said if Karunanidhi really had concern for Tamils, his party should have quit the UPA alliance in 2008, when India provided military assistance to Sri Lanka in its fight against rebel LTTE, or the next year when hostilities peaked, resulting in increased civilian Tamils casualties.
Instead, he had only enacted a ‘three-hour drama’ by staging a fast seeking ceasefire, she said about his hunger strike at Marina here, which drew flak from various quarters.

Kotagiri: AIADMK supremo and chÂief minister J JayaÂlaÂlitÂhaa accused archrival M. Karunanidhi of using his DMK party and its positiÂon at the Centre for 17 loÂng years only to benefit his family.
Addressing a huge rally of party workers and the public here after paying triÂbutes to AIADMK fouÂnÂder MGR on his 97th biÂrth anniversary, Ms JayaÂlaÂliÂthaa recalled that the DÂMK waÂlÂked out of the UnÂÂÂion government and deÂÂclÂared seÂvering ties with the ConÂgress after citing, for namÂesake, the Sri LaÂnkan issue but a few moÂnths laÂter, KaÂruÂnaÂnidhi begÂged the ConÂgrÂess for support for daughter KaniÂmozhi in the RaÂjya Sabha polls.
The DMK chief, she said, had snapped ties wiÂth the Congress as he was known to ditch the ally if he felt that party would not return to power. “He is now trying to cobble up alliance with a few small parties but if that does not work out, he will not hesitate to go back to the CoÂngress,” she said.
The Congress-led UPA government had always worked against the welfare and sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu-be it the Cauvery issue, MulÂlaiperiyar water, alloÂtÂment of kerosene, the fishermen attacks, allocation of electricity or the LaÂnkan Tamil issue. The regime should be thrown out as it was pro-rich and its wrong economic policies badly hurt the common man while causing price rise and inflation, Ms Jayalalithaa said.
“To find solutions to the problems engulfing Tamil Nadu and to work for the rights of our state, the poÂwer to guide the CeÂntral government shoÂuld come to our hands. And to achÂieve this, we must win all the 40 LS seats in TN and PuÂducherry. The party caÂÂdres should work tireleÂssly to achieve this,” CM said, adding that she woÂuld undertake a whirlwiÂnd tour for poll campaign.
