Controversy of FB post: Women want junior advocate Anima Muyarath barred

Kerala advocate Anima had posted about harassment by her male colleagues on FB.

Kozhikode: A section of advocates, all women, of the Kozhikode Bar Council, have come in support of the Bar Council’s decision to suspend Anima Muyarath, the junior advocate who posted a comment against her male colleagues on her Facebook page.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, the advocates headed by senior advocates V.M.Leelavathy and Shalina O.M., alleged that Anima had been trying to meddle with the image of the lawyers’ fraternity with her comments.

“The comments she posted depict women advocates in a bad light. The post questions the self respect and integrity of all woman advocates of the Bar Council,” they said. They alleged that Anima had behaved arrogantly with senior advocate Leelavathy, when she asked Anima about the post.

“When the association asked for an explanation, Anima gave contradictory replies and later withdrew her allegations against senior advocates. She was not ready to reveal the names of those who had ‘harassed’ her. She wrote to the Bar Association saying the association had no legitimate right to give her a show-cause notice or to take action against her personal comments on Facebook”, the lawyers said.

I never expected any support, says Anima

Meanwhile, Anima told DC that she never expected any sort of support from a majority of women advocates as they were all part of a male dominated system. “I’m not surprised they came out against me in public”, she added.
