Dawoodi bohra spiritual head passes away
Hyderabad: Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, spiritual leader of Dawoodi Bohra community, passed away on Friday after a cardiac arrest here. He was 102.
His 70-year-old son, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, will succeed him. Dr Burhanuddin is credited with the social and economic uplift of the community.
He has encouraged community members, who are largely in business, to explore new options and provided them guidance and financial assistance.

Hyderabad: The 52nd Dai ul Mutlaq of the Dawoodi Bohra community, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, passed away due to sudden cardiac arrest on Friday at Saifee Mahal in Mumbai.
A part of the Shia community of Muslims the Dawood Bohra’s are spread worldwide. With most of them heading for Mumbai, Bhendi Bazaar to witness the last rites of the leader who was very much revered by the community. The leader was 102-year-old and his 103rd birthday celebrations were being organised by the community in the next few weeks in Mumbai.
Dr Burhanuddin is revered as he is credited with the upliftment of the social and economic status of the community. He has encouraged community members who were largely businessmen to explore new business options and also provided them guidance as well as financial assistance.
The community runs its own schemes which are overlooked by the Dawoodi Bohra Trust and they help their members who have set up establishments in Middle East, South Africa and also in every nook and corner of India. He was also revered for enhancing the education in the community by bringing out the concept of merging religious teachings with regular civil teachings.
