Javed Akhtar warns T-Series
The music fraternity showed exemplary solidarity with actor-producer Abhay Deol and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy’s stand-off with T-Series on the royalty issue.
Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Shankar-Ehsan-Loy, Kailash Kher, Javed Akhtar, Abhay Deol and many more A-listers of the music industry jointly addressed the press meet.
Calling T-Series “liars!”, Javed Akhtar minced no words, as he said, “They are manipulating to suit their vested interests. So far we’ve been very understanding, as we consider them one among us. But if they carry on with their illegal operations, and not part with the legally assigned profits to the concerned performer, we will take stern action.”
Ever since musicians realised that the value of their creative performances isn’t given due credit with royalty, they have been raising their voice. “This grievance has been raised from time to time. Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and others have demanded their rightful royalties,” said Javed Akhtar.
He added, “In 2012, musical performers and lyricists have been legally granted the right to their royalties. Union minister Kapil Sibal was very supportive. Undeniably, T-Series is still illegally collecting all our dues and are refusing to budge.”
“I chose this platform to give them our last warning. Abide by the law of the land, before it is too late,” Javed Akhtar concluded.
