School suffers Rs 60 lakh in damages

Bangalore: Following the shocking incident of a reputed private English-medium sch­ool at Cho­kka­nahalli, which was burnt to the ground on Wednesday evening, the Sampigehalli poli­ce are yet to make any arrests.

The police said the owner of the Gree­ngrove Int­ern­ational School, Aruna Raja­shekhar, has filed a complaint against the kith and kin of 19-year-old college student Sam­­­path Kumar who was killed after a vehicle from the school kn­ocked him down on Tuesday evening.

Sampath’s relatives and friends gathered in front of the school on Wednesday dema­nding compensation, but the school was clo­sed due to a government holiday. Enraged protestors then vandalised the school bef­ore setting the enti­re property ablaze.

Aruna told the police that the estimated loss incurred from the devastation was nearly '60 lakh. “We have not made any arrests in connection with the incident yet. However, to avert any more untoward incidents, we have stat­io­ned reserve pol­ic­e in and around the sch­ool,” said dep­uty commissioner of poli­ce (North East), T.R. Suresh.
