School suffers Rs 60 lakh in damages
Bangalore: Following the shocking incident of a reputed private English-medium school at Chokkanahalli, which was burnt to the ground on Wednesday evening, the Sampigehalli police are yet to make any arrests.
The police said the owner of the Greengrove International School, Aruna Rajashekhar, has filed a complaint against the kith and kin of 19-year-old college student Sampath Kumar who was killed after a vehicle from the school knocked him down on Tuesday evening.
Sampath’s relatives and friends gathered in front of the school on Wednesday demanding compensation, but the school was closed due to a government holiday. Enraged protestors then vandalised the school before setting the entire property ablaze.
Aruna told the police that the estimated loss incurred from the devastation was nearly '60 lakh. “We have not made any arrests in connection with the incident yet. However, to avert any more untoward incidents, we have stationed reserve police in and around the school,” said deputy commissioner of police (North East), T.R. Suresh.
