Chennai: The otherwise usual Pongal celebration was given twist with Rekla race. Residents of suburban Madhavaram and Tiruvallur conducted Rekla race on the occasion of Kaanum Pongal.
A.V. Rajan, organiser of the event says, “This is the second time we are organising the event and the response has been overwhelming.”
Hundrerds of people witnessed the race. Rajan says, “The event is usually a South Tamil Nadu event but we tries to make a change to other wise mundane Pongal atmosphere in Chennai. And people did like it.”
This year the team from Puzhal bagged the first prize and the Redhills and Parrys won the second and third prize respectively.
Rajan says, “Usually people in Chennai watch Jallikattu on TV and desist coming out. Pongal needs to see a community get together and our aim was served with the Rekla race.”
