Kozhikode: As the trial court is set to pass the verdict in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case on January 22, the CPM, RMP and the police are making preparations to meet any eventualities.
The CPM district committee has asked the local, area and branch-level committees to take steps to ensure peace on the day. The police have called a high-level meeting of officials from Kannur district and Kozhikode rural police division on Friday and of the Kozhikode city on Saturday on tackling any emergency situation.
ADGP (North Zone) N. Shanker Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that the police will enforce a foolproof security mechanism in all the trouble-prone zones on the eve of the verdict. “We would hold a meeting of all officials concerned, including those in charge of the investigation,” he said.
The CPM leadership has ruled out any vengeance or violence on account of the verdict. CPM district secretary T.P. Ramakrishnan told DC, “we may win or lose the legal battle, but the party workers will not indulge in violence. Earlier, there were chances of violence as most of the party workers were enlisted as accused as part of a political conspiracy. But we have defused the situation through meetings,” he added.
However, the RMP leadership is concerned about possible violence. RMP leader K.S. Hariharan told DC that they have submitted a list of sensitive villages in Kozhikode and Kannur districts to the police. “We believe that the police will take precautionary measures to avert any law and order problems,” he added.
